Jewish-style font Hummus

Hummus is a font stylized for Hebrew alphabet. The font includes Latin and Cyrillic letters, numbers and some special characters.

Most existing stylizations of the Hebrew alphabet are made in a handwritten style, in which the letters are written with a brush and resemble flames.

Indeed, such inscriptions, which are called Rashi script and were created to comment The Bible, can still be found on street signs in Jerusalem. However this is a decoration, people don’t write like that now.

Modern Hebrew types look completely different. This is the most square-shaped writing system. A person who is not familiar with the alphabet can hardly distinguish letters from each other. The symbols are smooth, have few serifs, most characters have approximately same size and fit into square.

Since there are many stylizations of Biblical Hebrew, Hummus, on the contrary, imitates modern Hebrew. It is based on Hebrew characters of Lucida Grande font. Some letters are very similar.

Hummus is best for decorative works. The font can be used to inscript postcards, posters and old paintings. Should suit well for the sign of a Jewish restaurant or a jewelry store in an old market.

A few inscriptions in my stories about Israel made with Hummus: from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Hummus is available free of charge for use in any purpose, including commercial.
